Музеи дизайна и многочисленные современные галереи дизайна соперничают между собой, стремясь наилучшим способом продемонстрировать развитие проектной деятельности в XX – XXI вв. Несмотря на молодость дизайна по отношению к архитектуре или искусству, в целом, этот музейный кластер расширяется с каждым годом.
На лекции мы поговорим о музейных институциях, которые регулярно сообщают об очередной круглой годовщине своего существования как нью-йорский Музей дизайна Купер-Хьюитт или Музей Дизайна в Копенгагене, так и о тех институциях, которые расширили свои возможности и экспозицию за счёт новоселья – как лондонский Музей Дизайна или веймарский Музей Баухаус, а также поговорим и о инициативе крупных производителей дизайнерской продукции, стремящихся усилить свои стратегические позиции за счёт открытия галерей и музеев.

Eva Lyberten, an icon of Spanish softcore in the 1970s and 1980s, is appearing on stage to tell us her story. Now 60 years old, she shares her past with the audience, narrating the story recounted by the images of her that still survive: her erotic films. Identity, desire and fiction is analysed through her films from the 1970s, the period when Spain was beginning to open up.

This piece hovers between documentary and fiction and reflects on the erotic image projected in the female body, on how we believe and how we look at these images – both public and more private ones – and on the tensions between the individual and collective spheres, desire and fiction, and sexual icons and women. It is a study of looking and being looked at, of what is visible and what stubbornly refuses to be seen.

Una [One Woman] is a product of the Empremta (Imprint) Project of the Teatre Lliure, a theatrical transferral between Carlota Subirós and Raquel Cors.

Мировая премьера оперы «Сила судьбы» прошла почти 160 лет назад, 29 октября 1862 года в Большом (Каменном) театре Петербурга. Это единственное произведение Верди, написанное специально по заказу российского театра. Публика сочла сюжет мрачноватым, а музыку – сложной, поэтому к премьере в Ла Скала (1869) была сделана вторая редакция, которая в дальнейшем с успехом ставилась на мировых сценах.

Ненависть и любовь, сословное неравенство, рок – важнейшие мотивы в операх Верди. В «Силе судьбы» к ним добавляются расовые предубеждения. Леонора ди Варгас, дочь испанского маркиза ди Калатравы, влюблена в «недостойного» юношу, потомка древнего рода инков – дона Альваро. Разумеется, маркиз против такого союза. Застав Альваро в комнате дочери, Калатрава осыпает его обвинениями в поруганной чести Леоноры. В результате роковой случайности маркиз получает смертельное ранение. Умирая, он проклинает дочь. Леонора и Альваро разлучены: она уходит в монастырь, он – в армию. Но сын Калатравы, дон Карлос, после смерти отца клянется отомстить сестре и ее любовнику-убийце. И ситуацию в свои руки берет сама судьба…

Luigi Rossi's first opera - boasting sixteen soloists, double and triple choirs for 6 and 12 voices, numerous ballets  - marked the last surge of Roman opera before the Eternal City forsook it for a long time. For the Argentine conductor Leonardo García Alarcón, who rediscovered the opera in the Vatican Library neglected for 380 years, Il Palazzo incantato is "the missing link in the history of opera and the metaphor of our lives". 

Climate change remains our most urgent issue. But while the diagnosis is simple, the solution appears complicated. Last year’s »Fridays for Future« demonstrations where schoolchildren around the world gathered to protest against the climate emergency have not achieved the breakthrough that was hoped for. This protest is now taking on a new form. The bitter conflict between morality and financial interests is also described by Henrik Ibsen, whose drama »An Enemy of the People« is in no way inferior to contemporary discussions about the implementation of urgently needed measures to protect the environment. Director Volker Lösch and author Lothar Kittstein have therefore decided to over-write this environmental classic from 1882 for today’s stage. Inspired by young environmental activists from Düsseldorf and together with actors from the ensemble they examine the complex relationship between the climate crisis, resistance and defence of the status quo. The story is moved to – where else? – the »most beautiful city on the Rhine«, whose Mayor has successfully secured subsidy for a new factory to build electronic cars…

François Girard, whose revelatory 2013 take on Parsifal set the recent Met standard for Wagner stagings, now unveils a spellbinding new vision of the composer's tale of a cursed sea captain doomed to sail the open ocean for eternity—live in cinemas March 14. With sweeping sets by John Macfarlane, Girard’s new production turns the Met stage into a rich, layered tableau reminiscent of a vast oil painting. Valery Gergiev conducts a brilliant cast led by bass-baritone Evgeny Nikitin as the Dutchman, with German soprano Anja Kampe making her anticipated Met debut as the devoted Senta, whose selfless love is what the Dutchman seeks. Bass Franz-Josef Selig is her father, Daland, and tenor Sergey Skorokhodov is her deserted former lover, Erik. This live cinema transmission is part of the Met’s award-winning Live in HD series, bringing opera to more than 2,200 theaters in more than 70 countries worldwide.

“The question of what is real and how it can be represented in theatre, has always interested us” write Deflorian and Tagliarini. They have been working together as authors, actors, performers, and directors since 2008. In 2016, their research took them in the direction of the obsessive nature of the rhythms of contemporary life, and this “hyperactive efficacity” which constantly prompts us to see more and more, but which increasingly prevents us from looking around us, without any immediate objective in mind - and from simple contemplation… What do we mean by “to live in”? If it is true that “we have traded-in our interior life for an indoor life”, in what way do our various forms of shelter let us think about those left “out in the rain”? The Sky is not a Backdrop aims to strengthen the dialogue between make-believe space and the external space.

Michael Mayer’s acclaimed production, first seen in the 2012–13 season, sets the action of Verdi’s masterpiece in 1960 Las Vegas—a neon-lit world ruled by money and ruthless, powerful men. Piotr Beczała is the Duke, a popular entertainer and casino owner who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Željko Lučić sings Rigoletto, his sidekick and comedian, and Diana Damrau is Rigoletto’s innocent daughter, Gilda. When she is seduced by the Duke, Rigoletto sets out on a tragic course of murderous revenge. Štefan Kocán is the assassin Sparafucile and Michele Mariotti conducts.

A family is falling apart on stage. At such points of crisis there are no good or bad, there are just opposing intentions, unfulfilled needs and a lot of repression. In the story of Nora and Helmer’s marriage, besides the overwhelming restrictions that the pre-set roles of a marriage entail, lack of self-knowledge and the lack of freedom is what leads to divorce. 
The set of problems that Ibsen’s play deals with, especially the situation of women, has changed a lot in most part of Europe. However, when something changes in the legal sense, it does not necessarily affect society immediately. An idea suddenly gives start to a progress, but human behaviour changes at a slower pace. The way people think, feel and make decisions may follow similar patterns as 140 years before. 
This rewritten version of A Doll’s House has been staged by Kriszta Székely, young director of the Katona József Theatre, and won the Hungarian Theatre Critics’ Award in 2017 (‘best actress in a leading role’ for Eszter Ónodi and ‘most promising young talent’ for Székely) as her debut work after graduating from University of Theatre and Film Arts, Budapest. #freeszfe

Esteemed Shakespearean director Adrian Noble focuses on the timeless and universal themes embraced by Verdi. This atmospheric production, starring Željko Lučić and Maria Guleghina, highlights the ferocious royal couple’s erotic connection as the lynchpin of their ruthlessness. James Levine presides over a powerful performance that features some of Verdi’s most stirring choral writing.

The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess returns to the Met for the first time since 1990, in a new production directed by James Robinson in his company debut. America’s “folk opera,” as the 1935 creators described it, tells the story of disabled beggar Porgy, sung by Eric Owens, and his love for the drug-addicted Bess, portrayed by Angel Blue. 

David Robertson conducts a stellar cast that also includes Donovan Singletary as fisherman Jake, Golda Schultz as his wife Clara, Latonia Moore as the bereaved widow Serena, Frederick Ballentine as drug dealer Sportin’ Life, Alfred Walker as the brutal stevedore Crown, and Denyce Graves as Maria, town matriarch and operator of the local cook-shop. 

Infused with the timeless melodies of the much-loved classics “Summertime,” “It Ain’t Necessarily So,” “Bess, You Is My Woman Now,” “I Got Plenty o’ Nuttin,” and “My Man’s Gone Now,” the new co-production with English National Opera and Dutch National Opera was hailed as a triumph at its premiere in London earlier this year.

Verdi painted an immense canvas with this dark but tuneful opera, vividly brought to life in John Dexter’s production, with sets by the great Eugene Berman. The legendary Leontyne Price is seen in one of her greatest roles, Leonora. Price’s soaring voice encompasses every nuance of Leonora’s emotion as she moves from joy through resignation to ultimate heartbreak. James Levine’s brilliant leading of the Met orchestra and chorus is a lesson in Verdi style. Giuseppe Giacomini is Alvaro, the man Leonora loves, and Leo Nucci is Don Carlo, the dark instrument of their Fate.

His much put upon heroine Angelina (Elīna Garanča) has to cope not only with nasty stepsisters, but also an over-the-top, farcical father, Don Magnifico (Alessandro Corbelli). And in this version the Prince (Lawrence Brownlee) and his valet (Simone Alberghini) swap identities, which causes no end of delightful confusion. With Cesare Lievi’s delightful storybook production and Maurizio Benini’s expert conducting, it’s all as light and delicious as a marvelous musical soufflé.

Давно знакомые истории о рождении и смерти Спасителя Босх рассказывает совершенно иначе, удивляя зрителей и деталями подарков, принесенных Младенцу волхвами, и улыбающимся Дьяволом, оказавшимся в сцене поклонения рядом с главными героями, и удивительным качеством полугризайлей и гризайлей на закрытых створках триптихов.
Святые Босха, от Антония до Иеронима, предстают перед нами в окружении странных существ, загадку которых трудно разгадать окончательно. Борода Вильгефортис оскорбила вкус итальянских заказчиков триптиха и ее надолго спрятали от взглядов зрителей. А изображение святого Христофора носит отпечаток работ предшественников Босха, включая и знаменитый Гентский алтарь братьев ван Эйк. Jessye Norman is a regal Ariadne, the mythological Greek heroine in this opera-within-an-opera, opposite the passionate Bacchus of the great James King. Kathleen Battle delivers the coloratura fireworks of Zerbinetta, the leader of a commedia dell’arte troupe that finds itself stranded on Ariadne’s island. Tatiana Troyanos and Franz Ferdinand Nentwig star as the young Composer and the Music Master in the opera’s prologue. James Levine brings out all the color and charm of Strauss’s brilliant chamber-sized score with its equal amounts of pathos and humor. Bodo Igesz’s production features sets by esteemed designer Oliver Messel.

A stellar cast brings Puccini’s spellbinding opera to life, seizing every opportunity to thrill the audience. Luciano Pavarotti is Cavaradossi, the painter and political revolutionary in love with the beautiful and famous singer Tosca (the riveting Shirley Verrett). 

Rome’s diabolical chief of police, Baron Scarpia (Cornell MacNeil), wants Tosca for himself—but he underestimates the fury of a woman in love. With torture, murder, and a suicide in its final moments, Tosca packs more dramatic punches than most other operas—and this classic telecast captures them all. Robert Lepage’s landmark staging of Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen, unveiled over the course of the 2010–11 and 2011–12 seasons, was the first new Met production of the complete cycle in more than 20 years. Combining state-of-the-art technology with traditional storytelling, it brings Wagner’s vision into the 21st century. In this first part of the epic, the theft of the Rhinegold treasure sets in motion the course of events that will change the world and end the rule of the gods. Met Music Director James Levine conducts a cast of some of the greatest Wagnerian singers of our time, including Bryn Terfel as Wotan, Stephanie Blythe as Fricka, and Eric Owens as Alberich.

Pier Luigi Samaritani’s romantic production beautifully captures the sweep and passion of Verdi’s music. With James Levine’s marvelous conducting, this cast makes a spectacular case for Verdi’s opera. The great Luciano Pavarotti is at his stunning best in the title role as the wronged nobleman turned bandit. A beautiful and heartbreaking Leona Mitchell is Elvira, the woman he loves. But she is also pursued by two other men: King Don Carlo (Sherrill Milnes in one of his greatest roles) and her aged guardian, Don Ruy Gomez de Silva (a superb Ruggero Raimondi).

With its hilarious hijinks and vocal virtuosity, Rossini’s madcap comedy always proves a delightful treat. For this 1988 telecast, the Met assembled a cast capable of tackling both the musical and physical challenges of this bel canto farce, seen here in a whimsical production by John Cox. From the moment he takes the stage with Figaro’s iconic aria “Largo al factotum,” Leo Nucci combines winning charm with a robust baritone. Soprano Kathleen Battle tosses off one glittering vocal display after another as the feisty Rosina, while tenor Rowell Blake makes for an ardent Count Almaviva. Ralf Weikert conducts the lively performance, which also includes the comic duo of Enzo Dara as Dr. Bartolo and Ferruccio Furlanetto as Don Basilio.

This atmospheric production by Piero Faggioni, conducted by James Levine, captures all the brooding power and elegance of Verdi’s drama of love and politics. Luciano Pavarotti stars as Riccardo, the unlucky ruler in love with his best friend’s wife, Amelia (Aprile Millo). Leo Nucci is the husband torn between loyalty and his thirst for revenge, and Florence Quivar sings Ulrica, the fortuneteller who prophesizes the tragic ending.

On her way to the convent, a joy-loving young woman falls head over heels in love with a handsome stranger and decides to flee with him. Yet aspiring to a life of wealth and luxury, she ends up throwing herself into the arms of a rich nobleman. But can she forget her true love?

German stage director David Bösch, known for his modern, enigmatic productions which uncover the psychological depths of their characters, makes his Hamburg debut with Jules Massenet's Parisian Belle Époque masterpiece, featuring shooting star Elsa Dreisig in the title role.

Phelim McDermott, whose productions include the hugely successful Satyagraha by Philip Glass, returns to the Met with a new staging of Glass’s Akhnaten, conducted by Karen Kamensek in her Met debut. Anthony Roth Costanzo sings the title role of the Egyptian pharaoh who attempted to inspire his people to adopt a new religion, abandoning the worship of the old gods for that of a single deity. 

In her Met debut, J’Nai Bridges sings the role of Nefertiti, Akhnaten’s bride, and Dísella Lárusdóttir is Queen Tye, the pharaoh’s mother. One of the staging’s distinctive visual features is provided by the Gandini Juggling Company, whose movements are perfectly choreographed with the orchestral score. 

This production of Akhnaten was originally created by LA Opera, Improbable, and English National Opera, where it premiered, winning the 2017 Olivier Award for Best New Opera Production.

The gorgeous and evocative Otto Schenk/Günther Schneider-Siemssen production continues with this second opera in Wagner’s Ring cycle. Hildegard Behrens brings deep empathy to Brünnhilde, the favorite daughter of the god Wotan (James Morris) who nevertheless defies him. Morris’s portrayal of Wotan is deservedly legendary, as is Christa Ludwig, as Fricka. Jessye Norman and Gary Lakes are Sieglinde and Siegmund, and Kurt Moll is the threatening Hunding. James Levine and the Met orchestra provide astonishing color and drama.

In a perfect synergy of the arts, choreographers Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Damien Jalet, together with the legendary performance artist Marina Abramovic, stage Pelléas et Mélisande as a cosmic dream. Like Debussy through his impressionistic music, the performers and creators of this production dispense with any illustration and instead bring out the hidden emotions of the characters.

The Sacred Choral Music Festival celebrates our rich and broad musical heritage and serves to uplift new music. “Vampyr” ühendab muusika ja kino ning 20. ja 21. sajandi – Eesti esiettekandeni jõuab eesti helilooja Tõnu Kõrvitsa 2015. aastal loodud muusika taani režissööri Carl Theodor Dreyeri 1932. aastal valminud filmile.
Linastusele tulev avangardiklassikasse kuuluv film “Vampyr – Der Traum des Allan Grey” on unenäoline õudusfilmisugemetega teos, visuaalsete efektide tulevärk, meistriteos veel tänapäevalgi.
Tellimuse filmile muusika loomiseks tegi Kõrvitsale Normandia Sümfooniaorkester Prantsusmaal. Esiettekanne toimus 20. novembril 2015 Caenis festivalil „Les Boreales”, dirigendiks Jean Deroyer. Eesti publiku ette toob teose dirigent Kaspar Mänd koos Pärnu Linnaorkestriga.
